HIV/AIDS Antistigmata
For various reasons the community of PLWHA is growing also in Romania. The society has to acknowledge also that the needs of PLWHA have changed. As the majority of them in 1990 were little babies in the maternity, now they are young adults.
Already involved in HIV/AIDS issues in the frame of 2006-2008 Strategy, AIDRom has to continue to be ready to respond to the need of PLWHA and prepared Churches, clergy and lay to be involved by mediating and facilitating for PLWHA, have the social, pastoral and missionary tools to assist them and above all to welcoming them into church, assist them spiritually and be an example of anti-stigmata approach.
In the frame of 2009-2011 Strategy AIDRom is acting through the Ecumenical Network of Churhces in Romania Aginst HIV/AIDS Stigmata, with more than 260 specialists in various domains, for meeting the priority needs related to HIV/AIDS from a Churches point of view as expressed by participants in various meetings and consultations are:
- Church people, clergy lay religion teachers and social workers involvement in education prevention, direct work for PLWHA, facilitation and conflict mediation for
- Mentality change regarding the statute and life of PLWHA
- Development of specific pastoral care for PLWHA
- Provide legislation tools and anti-discrimination mechanisms knowledge
