ECUMENICAL PLATFORM AND FORMATION

The mandate of this department is to promote the visible unity, dialogue and witness of the churches in Romania, to lead the way towards the establishment of a NCC in Romania.
This department includes programs like:

  • Ecumenical Commission
  • Prayer for unity
  • Inter-theological Conferences
  • Lay and Youth ecumenical formation

The last evaluations of AIDRom, approved by the General Assemblies and the decisions of AIDRom’s Administrative Councils highlighted the need for assistance to all efforts leading to a closer ecumenical cooperation of the Churches in Romania, extended to other Churches which are not yet members of AIDRom. The same decision making bodies advised to have an Ecumenical Commission established, dedicated to open high-level theological and organizational discussion with all the Churches in Romania.

This ecumenical team has seven members: two delegates for each AIDRom founding member Church and a secretary on behalf of AIDRom staff; the meetings are organized by rotation in every confessional background.
The Ecumenical Commission published so far three ecumenical booklets (related to the above mentioned themes, the history of the member Churches, Charta Oecumenica in Romanian) and others are about to be printed on the Solemn Day of Prayer (the 29th of June), Christian Faith  in Romania and “The light of Christ is brightening to everybody’’ (both in English and Romanian).

This „prayer for unity” program consists of three activities: the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the World Day of Prayer and preparatory work for the Solemn Day of Prayer (the 29th of June). Through its specific projects AIDRom edited and printed materials for these ecumenical prayer events and promoted them by consultations and preparatory work

Regarding the inter-theological conferences, besides the conferences and consultations organized by the Ecumenical Commission on Charta Oecumenica, Porto Alegre and Sibiu-EEA3-2007, AIDRom was invited to all actions organized by the Commission for Church Comparative History and ensured ecumenical participation.
Other inter-theological conferences were those in the series „Church, State & Society” which also published a booklet with all the main papers. The international ecumenical participation was consistently supported via another AIDRom project – Ecumenical Dialogues & Scholarships.

This program for Lay and Youth Ecumenical Formation tried to facilitate the process of establishing a National Ecumenical Forum of Lay people in Romania and to offer an ecumenical platform for youth organisations from AIDRom member Churches. The following projects have been processed: Ecumenical Study Week, Ecumenical Dialogues and Scholarships, Church and Society Meeting of Lay Academies, Ecumenical Studies Week Education for Healing the Past, Ecumenical Youth Camps.
AIDRom is offering all its expertise regarding scholarship exchange between Churches or ecumenical bodies in order to enhance youth ecumenical formation, especially for young theology students.
