Disaster Prevention, Preparedness and Emergency Response
HISTORY
AIDRom Emergency Unit has been actively involved since 1991 in implementing emergency programs in Romania: 1991 earthquake in Banat Region, 1991 Moldavia floods, 1995 landslides in Transylvania, 1997-2008 floods in Transylvania, Moldavia Banat and Southern Romania.
During these activities, AIDRom Emergency Unit rendered immediate help to the victims of various natural disasters (floods, earthquakes, landslides) consisting in immediate humanitarian assistance (provision of food, hygiene items, clothing), agricultural seed inputs, live stocks, home reconstruction, farm and small infrastructural rehabilitations (bridges, drink water systems, wells).
In cooperation with Diakonie Emergency Aid Germany, AIDRom is also implementing since 2004 disaster prevention programs in small rural communities from Romania, in order to assist them in mitigation of effects of various natural calamities.
AIDRom Emergency Unit is also member since 1997 of the Action by Churches Together (ACT) International which is a global alliance of churches and related agencies working to save lives and support communities in emergencies worldwide.

- enhancing community managing skills and roles on local level in disaster prevention and preparedness
- meeting 1st degree priorities of those affected by natural disasters
- to alleviate the human suffering of the victims

- to place people on the path of rehabilitation and recovery

RESOURCES
AIDRom Emergency Unit is having a highly flexible structure. In times when no disaster programs are implemented, the Emergency Unit consist of a coordinator, which is able to quickly scale up the team to the demands and needs during emergency project implementation. In such situation, a program assistant is assuring the secretarial support, an emergency field work coordinator is constantly present on the various implementation sites, while two transport monitors and several volunteers are assuring the relief transports to the affected areas. Further, local churches as well as county and community councils are assisting AIDRom on the locations for the sound project implementation.
